Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles and ADR Services, Inc. Present a Discussion of Civility and Ethics with Hon. Joe Hilberman (Ret.)

On January 28, 2011, from 12 to 2 pm, WLALA members are invited to a luncheon downtown at the offices of ADR Services, Inc. for a presentation and interactive discussion on Civility and Ethics in today’s legal practice with the Honorable Joe Hilberman (Ret.).
In 2010, Judge Hilberman, a neutral in the Los Angeles office of ADR Services, was identified by The Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal as one of the top 50 neutrals in California. He served as a Judge of the Los Angeles Superior Court from 2001 to 2009. During his time on the bench, Judge Hilberman handled the unlimited civil independent calendar trial court and long cause trials, domestic violence, spousal and child support, and child custody matters in Family Law trial court. His experience on the bench also included limited jurisdiction civil trial court and misdemeanor trial court. Prior to his time on the bench, Judge Hilberman was a Founding Partner of Fonda Hilberman & Fraser, handling civil litigation and mediation, including professional and personal liability, insurance coverage, and risk management issues on behalf of insurance carriers, self-insured businesses, universities and healthcare providers. He was also a partner with the law firms of Fonda Garrard Hilberman & Davis, Levinson & Lieberman, and Shield & Smith.
Judge Hilberman is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, where he has served on the Board of Trustees for the Los Angeles Chapter since 2003. He sits on its Standing Committee on Professional Civility. In 2008, he was named Jurist of the Year by the American Board of Trial Advocates, Los Angeles Chapter. In 2009-2010, he served as President of the UCLA School of Law Alumni Association. For three years, from 2006 to 2009, he sat on the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Litigation Section Executive Committee. In addition, he is a member of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles. Judge Hilberman received his JD in 1973 from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, and his AB in 1970, also from UCLA.
Judge Hilberman frequently lectures on civility and ethics issues. He served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at UCLA School of Law in 2009, and a Guest Lecturer at the Pepperdine Law School Trial Advocacy program in 2007. In 2005 and 2006, he was an adjunct professor of law at Loyola Law School.
ADR Services, Inc. is a California State Bar approved MCLE provider. The January 28, 2011 program has been approved for 1 hour of Legal Ethics MCLE credit.
