2011 Litigators Forum
Biases and Assumptions Based on Gender, Race and National Origin: Change the Mindset of Judges, Juries, Client and Law Firms
by Jennifer W. Leland
Join us March 17, 2011 for an exciting program at the Los Angeles Athletic Club. This year’s Annual Litigators Forum is a half-day program that will focus on unconscious biases encountered by women and minority litigators, the manifestation and impact of these biases both inside and outside the courtroom, and solutions for addressing and eliminating them.
The program will include two panel discussions. The first panel, entitled “Bias In the Courtroom,” will discuss the implicit biases and assumptions faced by female and minority attorneys in the courtroom. Confirmed panelists include the Honorable Fumiko Wasserman and jury consultants Cynthia Cohen, Johanna Carrane, and Moderator Victoria Pynchon. A second panel entitled “Master Women Litigators” will be made up of accomplished female litigators, including Shawn Chapman Holley, Ruth Kahn, Nina Marino, and Jane Shay Wald, who will share their personal experiences of achieving professional success. This panel will be moderated by M.C. Sungaila. The morning program will be followed by a luncheon and keynote address by Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye.
Continental breakfast and full plated lunch will be provided.
The half day program is from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The luncheon and keynote address is from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Prices are as follows: $125 for WLALA Members; $175 for Non-Members; $75 for Public Interest, Government and Solo Practitioners (10 attorneys or less); $50 for Law Students; and $75 for the Luncheon only.
