Food from the Bar Returns for the Third Year: April 18-May 14, 2011
It's the kick-off for the 2011 LA Food from the Bar campaign (April 18 through May 14). Food from the Bar is a four-week campaign to raise funds, donate food, and volunteer at the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank. This is the third annual campaign in Los Angeles, and WLALA has been there from the start, making it bigger and better every year.
Check out this short video giving an overview of Food from the Bar: http://www.lafoodbank.org/source/Editorfile/Food_from_the_Bar.wmv
There are three ways you can participate:
1. Donate funds: Contributions can be made online at http://www.lafoodbank.org/virtual-food-drive/donor-pledge.aspx?member=0E6CAC84D19AD347B806A88BFAD695BE or you can make out a check payable to "Los Angeles Regional Foodbank" and send it in to the WLALA office. For every dollar raised, the Foodbank is able to purchase $5 worth of food for hungry families.
2. Donate food: WLALA is an official collection site for donations of canned goods or other non-perishables. WLALA will be accepting donations at all WLALA events and meetings during this four-week period, so clean out your cupboards, pick up an extra can or two at the grocery store, and make a difference in a hungry child's life.
3. VOLUNTEER! WLALA has reserved volunteer shifts on May 7th, 12:30 to 3:30 in Vernon (a few miles south of downtown) and May 14th, 4 to 7 pm in Santa Monica, or you can volunteer at other times more convenient for you. To register for the Downtown shift on May 7th, please go to http://www.wlala.org/cde.cfm?event=348420, or to register for the Westside shift on May 14th, please go to http://www.wlala.org/cde.cfm?event=348419 or reply back to this email. Friends and family members (14 years or older) are welcome to join us. The first 40 volunteers will get a very cool WLALA Food from the Bar t-shirt. (See donation link above to see what they look like.) It's a fun and rewarding to give back a little something to the community, and to mix, mingle, and network in a very relaxed atmosphere.
Hoping each and every WLALA member can find some way -- no matter how big or small -- to be a part of Food from the Bar.
