2012 Litigators Forum
Crisis in the Courts: Problems and Solutions for Navigating the Budget Cuts
by Amy Brantly
Join us March 15, 2012 for the seventeenth annual Litigators Forum at the Los Angeles Athletic Club. This year’s program examines the effects of California’s budget crisis on the justice system and how courts and practitioners have united in an effort to ease the collective burden we now face. We invite all litigators to join us for this special program that will offer unique perspectives and solutions from the bench.
The half day program will feature two panels of esteemed judges who will share their insights into this current problem. The first panel will discuss the impact of the budget cuts on the state courts, the appellate courts and the federal courts. Panelists include the Hon. Audrey B. Collins, Chief Judge of the Unites States District Court for the Central District of California, Hon. Tricia Bigelow, Presiding Justice of the 2nd District Court of Appeal, and Hon. Luis A. Lavin of the Los Angeles Superior Court. This panel will be moderated by Ruth D. Kahn of Steptoe & Johnson LLP.
The second panel will discuss the creative solutions that judges, practitioners and ADR professionals have developed in certain practice areas to help ease the burden on the courts and litigants. Panelists include the Hon. William F. Highberger of the Complex Division of the Los Angeles Superior Court; the Hon. Judith Chirlin (Ret.), Neutral with Judicate West, Hon. Scott Gordon of the Los Angeles Superior Court and Hon. Patricia Schnegg, Supervising Judge of the Criminal Division, Los Angeles Superior Court. This panel will be moderated by Amy T. Brantly of Susman Godfrey LLP.
The panel discussions will be followed by a luncheon and keynote address by the Hon. Carolyn B. Kuhl, Supervising Judge of the Los Angeles Superior Court. We hope you will join us for what promises to be a useful and enlightening program.
