The Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles (WLALA) is thrilled to announce its annual fundraiser, “WLALApalooza,” which will take place on June 21, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Please join us for a wonderful summer evening in the Japanese garden at the Kyoto Grand Hotel and Gardens located at 120 South Los Angeles Street, Los Angeles, California 90012. The rooftop garden of the hotel offers stunning views of the Los Angeles skyline and an atmosphere of serene tranquility set apart from the bustle of the city. The garden is modeled after a 400-year old, ten-acre authentic Japanese garden in Tokyo, Japan and was designed by celebrated landscape artist Sentaru Iwaki, following the style set by Tokyo garden master Kiyomasa Kato. It features waterfalls, strolling pathways, lush plant life, and precious rose-hued rocks from central Japan’s Sado Island.
As in prior years, WLALApalooza will feature a silent auction. Items for bid include various gift certificates to local restaurants, gyms, spas, theatre and other activities. There will also be an opportunity drawing where guests will have a chance to win a grand prize. Proceeds from the opportunity drawing fund the WLALA Foundation, which facilitates the pro bono activities of WLALA.
WLALApalooza is a great networking opportunity supporting a wonderful cause. Attendees will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, beverages and music. Proceeds from the event will be used to support WLALA’s ongoing operations to further the organization’s mission: to promote the full participation of women lawyers and judges in the legal profession, to maintain the integrity of our legal system by advocating principles of fairness and equality, to improve the status of women in our society, including their exercise of equal rights and reproductive choices, and to actively work towards the furtherance of these goals through WLALA’s committees, sections and activities.
Proceeds also will be used to support the WLALA Foundation’s projects, including: (1) the Domestic Violence Project, in which volunteer lawyers provide legal services at the Sojourn legal clinic for battered women; (2) the Jail Project, where volunteer lawyers advise and assist women detainees on their non-criminal legal matters; (3) the WLALA Foundation’s scholarships and public interest grants, both providing financial assistance to law students; (4) the Harriet Buhai Family Law Center, which assists low income individuals with family law matters; and (5) the Downtown Women’s Center, providing support and meals to homeless women residing at the shelter.
WLALA is actively seeking sponsors interested in contributing to this event. For sponsorship opportunities, volunteering information, and tickets to WLALApalooza, please contact WLALA at (213) 892-8982 or email email@example.com.
