It’s Food from the Bar Time (LA Legal Community Fights Hunger):
April 28 through May 23, 2014
Are you ready to have some fun and make a difference in your community? Your opportunity to do so is right around the corner. WLALA is once again an enthusiastic supporter of the annual Food from the Bar campaign, which will run from April 28 through May 23. Food from the Bar is a four-week effort by the legal community to support the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank through friendly competition consisting of fun fundraising, food donations, and volunteering. Last year’s campaign raised over $440,000, collected 14,000 pounds of food, and clocked over 750 volunteer shifts. This year the goal is $475,000, 18,000 pounds of food, and 760 volunteer shifts.
The 2014 Food from the Bar campaign has some new features that will be of special interest to WLALA members. In response to popular demand (including from WLALA members), April 26 and May 10 will be “Super Saturday Family Volunteer Days,” during which children as young as five years old will be able to participate in volunteer activities at the Foodbank. Ordinarily, the minimum age for volunteering is 14 years old, but for these two Saturdays, volunteering becomes a family affair. Space will be limited, so if you want to participate with your kids on either one of these days, please RSVP and get your name on the list ASAP (by calling Kim or Lindsay in the WLALA office at 213-892-8982). There is also one volunteer day at the Westside Food Bank in Santa Monica on May 10.
Other ways to get involved include donating through WLALA’s “virtual food drive” webpage on the Foodbank’s website, writing a check made payable to “Los Angeles Regional Foodbank,” by donating food, and/or by signing up your firm or office to be a participant, and being a part of the campaign within your office. Campaign participants are full of creative ideas for generating interest, fundraising, and making the Food from the Bar campaign stand out from other fundraising campaigns. Steering Committee co-chairs Natalie Pages Stone and Terri Oppelt would be glad to give you some tips on how to get your firm or office engaged in the campaign.
