It’s Food from the Bar Time (LA Legal Community Fights Hunger):
April 27 through May 22, 2015

The Food from the Bar campaign enters its seventh year in Los Angeles in 2015.   Food from the Bar is a four-week effort by the legal community to support the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank through friendly competition consisting of fun fundraising, food donations, and volunteering.  Last year’s campaign raised over $483,000, collected over 10,000 pounds of food, and clocked over 750 volunteer shifts.  This year the goal is $500,000 in monetary donations, 15,000 pounds of food donations, and 70 volunteer shifts.

The 2015 campaign will have a kickoff event on Tuesday, April 21 at lunchtime at City National Plaza (5th and Flower).   The challenge is to collect 1000 cans of food in one hour.   Fill up your litigation bags, messenger bags, roller bags, satchels, and backpacks with canned goods or other food items (no glass containers), bring them to the kickoff,  and join in the fun stacking and counting them to see if we reach our goal. 

As another part of the campaign, WLALA members, friends, committees, and sections are encouraged to volunteer for a shift at the Foodbank, sorting food or stuffing food kits for seniors or backpacks for children.  Ordinarily volunteers must be 14 years old or older but on two Saturdays of the campaign, there will be volunteer shifts for families, including children between the ages of five and fourteen.  These “Super Saturday Family Volunteer Days” will be held April 25 and May 9 in the mornings.  Make volunteering a family affair.   Space will be limited, so if you want to participate with your kids on either one of these days, please RSVP and get your name on the list ASAP (by calling Kim or Lindsay in the WLALA office at 213-892-8982).  There are plenty of other weekday and Saturday (morning and afternoon shifts) volunteer opportunities at the Foodbank.  There is also one volunteer day at the Westside Food Bank in Santa Monica on May 9 from 4 to 9 pm.

Please join us on April 30th at 6:00pm for a Urban Kitchen Experience to Benefit Food from the Bar.  WLALA is hosting an event at Urban Kitchen in South Pasadena, join us and Chef Michelle Hohman for a food and wine pairing event.  Urban Kitchen is a recreational cooking school designed to bring people together to LEARN, CREATE, and SAVOR delicious and seasonal meals.  It's chef instructors are classically trained with real world experience.  Event attendees will be treated to a cooking demonstration along with a wine discussion by a certified wine specialist.  Dinner and wine will be served.  All proceeds will benefit Food from the Bar!  To register for this event, CLICK HERE
