Meet the Board and Staff

Meehan Rasch
Public Interest Grant

Tell us about your background. I am a fifth-generation California and a civil appellate attorney in private practice at the boutique appellate litigation firm Greines, Martin, Stein & Richland.  My practice includes California Court of Appeal, Ninth Circuit, and California and U.S. Supreme Court appeals and petitions, as well as trial monitoring and assisting with summary judgment motions and statement of decision processes for clients still in trial court.  I am also a Lecturer in Legal Writing at USC Gould School of Law, and previously taught at UC Davis School of Law—in appellate practice we spend less time in the courtroom than trial lawyers, but I love leaving my desk to spend time in the classroom instead!
What is your role for WLALA and how would you like to see members get more involved?  As co-chair of the Public Interest Grants program, I administer the recruitment, application, and selection process for the WLALA Foundation’s Fran Kandel Public Interest Grant, which is awarded annually to one or more law students for projects that make governmental and social institutions and agencies more accessible and responsive to members of society whose interests are not otherwise adequately recognized or asserted.  WLALA members can help be serving on the applicant interview and selection committee in the spring, and by encouraging law students you know to apply.  Projects must benefit residents of the greater Los Angeles area, and the WLALA Foundation is specifically interested in proposals that have the advance support of a sponsoring organization and will produce some tangible materials or other “product,” such as information booklets, brochures, educational curricula, and videos.

What are your passions and interests?

I love reading and hiking (although not at the same time), and am looking forward to hiking Mt. Whitney this summer with a great group of women friends.  I also manage a socially responsible investment portfolio as Finance Chair for my church, Mt. Hollywood Congregational Church, and have a passion for music and songwriting, which is currently spent making up silly songs and lullabies for my baby daughter.

V. Paige Smith
Student Liaison - USC

Tell us about your background. After graduating from UNC Chapel Hill as a Chinese and Psychology double major, I formed an academic consulting business, where I took a diverse array of clients and led them through personally-tailored educational interventions. At USC, I've taken all the transactional courses I can; meanwhile, I've practiced nothing but complex entertainment litigation with my firm this summer.

What is your role for WLALA and how would you like to see members get more involved? My primary role is to make USC's WLA membership aware of all WLALA opportunities.  But I'm also here as an ambassador from WLALA to USC for coordinating events and brainstorming future opportunities to work together.  At our events, I'd love to see more law students --- it is never too early to start networking!

What are your passions and interests? Before all of this legal business came up, I was a DJ for a free-form radio station.  Today, I have a website (a work in progress, in the style of a magazine) at where I write music reviews and hope to eventually write long form articles.  Otherwise, I practice yoga, host monthly fundraising potlucks, and run 5Ks.

Julie Stromberg
Young Lawyers

Tell us about your background.

I am Of Counsel in the Beverly Hills office of Obagi & Stodder LLP. Prior to joining Obagi & Stodder LLP, I served as an associate for a large, national law firm where I focused my practice on complex civil litigation, products liability, toxic torts, pharmaceutical litigation, and environmental litigation and remediation. Over the past few years I have heavily devoted myself to public service in my community. For example, I serve as Chair of a local park committee. In that capacity, I work closely with the City and our community to preserve the historic characteristics of our park with a thoughtful renovation ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  I am also Chair of the Children’s and Field Trip Departments of the Ebell of Los Angeles. In addition, I have the privilege of serving on a number of boards. Recently, I was elected to serve a 2-year term as a Board Member for the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council (GWNC). I also serve on the GWNC’s Land Use Committee and as Secretary of the GWNC’s Transportation Committee.  In addition, I am a Board Member of the Los Angeles Chapter of the UC Berkeley Alumni Association. Last, but certainly not least, I am a volunteer at The Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law.

What is your role for WLALA and how would you like to see members get more involved?  I serve as co-Chair of the Young Lawyers Section. I first joined the WLALA Board as a Student Liaison and I have served on the WLALA Board for almost 6 years. As co-Chair of the Young Lawyers Section, I strive to create a community of new lawyers and raise awareness of all the resources and benefits WLALA offers. I try to get more members involved by teaching about WLALA, connecting with them via WLALA’s social media outlets, keeping them up to date with YLS and WLALA events, including them in the YLS event planning process, and seeking their feedback for potential YLS events. After all, YLS is not only a WLALA committee --- we are a community.

What are your passions and interests?  I enjoy spending time with my loving and beautiful family, which consists of my wonderful husband, 2-year-old son Julien, and my three rescue dogs. In the little spare time that I have, I enjoy spending time with my friends by hosting grand parties, gardening, cooking and baking, foreign languages, reading, animal rescue, antiquing, fitness, collecting and reading about wine, writing, live music, exploring Los Angeles’s great parks and architectural gems, and playing with the WLALA Golf League!

Kay Burt
Executive Administrator

Tell us about your background. I grew up in Southern California.  I graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a Bachelor in Business.   We just had our first son, Logan, two years ago and we are expecting our second on the way in October.

Tell us some of the things that you do, and what you like about working for WLALA. I like to think of Lindsay and I as the people who work behind the scenes.   We do everything from maintaining the website to assisting in event planning and everything in between.  I think the reason I’ve been with WLALA almost 8 years is because of the people who are involved with WLALA.  I really enjoy working with all the wonderful women who are part of the organization.

What are your passions and interests? I really enjoy snowboarding and riding my ATV in the desert.   If you know me, you would never guess that I enjoy either sport, but I think I love the challenge it brings into my life.  I also like to cook.  Cooking dinner is such a great way for me to unwind at the end of the day.

Lindsay Audette

What are your passions and interests?  Acting has been my passion since age 5 and I’ve recently gotten very involved in comedy.  I am in an improv/sketch comedy troupe and I also teach an Improv for Lawyers workshop (  I am very passionate about politics, so don’t be surprised if I run for President someday!  I also love football and run a fantasy football league.
