WLALA President 2013-2014

My journey as the President of WLALA has come to an end. This is my final President's message so it's only fitting that I conclude by acknowledging those who made WLALA's 95th year a great one. Thank you to Executive Committee members Jennifer Romano, Kimberly Arnal, Stacy Horth-Neubert, Amy Brantly, and Heather Stern for your dedication, support, and friendship. Thank you to all of the committed and productive WLALA and WLALA Foundation board members for another successful year. Thank you also to the many WLALA members and members of the judiciary who served as speakers and panelists for our programs – your willingness to share your time, wisdom, and experience exemplifies the spirit of our organization. Finally, thank you to Kay Burt and Lindsay Audette for all of your hard work and tremendous grace under pressure that ensures WLALA's standing as one of the best bar associations in Los Angeles and beyond.
Looking back, there are too many highlights to mention in detail so here is an overview of the 2013-14 board year, by the numbers: 1161 members, 96 life members, 476 attendees at Installation, 190 attendees at WLALAapalooza, 19 substantive programs, 20+ mentoring circle meetings and networking lunches, 15+ social events and happy hours, 16 board and foundation board meetings, 12 newsletters (with at least that many recipes), $17,790 raised during the WLALA Foundation’s Annual Giving Campaign, 2 public interest grant recipients, 5 scholarship awardees, 2 cooking clubs for Downtown Women’s Center,
1 fundraiser for Food from the Bar, 2 nail nights, 1 yoga class and multiple rounds of golf.
Looking ahead, please join me in wishing incoming President Jennifer Romano all the best for 2014-15 and also join me in welcoming the newest member of our Executive Committee, Communications Officer Jennifer Leland. I have no doubt that next year will be filled with more inspiring programs, fundraising events, mentoring opportunities, networking and, of course, a little fun. Our annual Awards and Installation Dinner is the first big event of the board year. Sponsorships and tickets are now available, so please see our website for more details. I look forward to seeing you all at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel on Thursday, September 18th. I will be the one with 'Immediate Past President' on my name tag.
