Last Chance to Support the 8th Annual Giving Campaign - Campaign Ends January 31st!

If, like many of us, your holidays were so full that you didn’t have a chance to make your contribution to our 8th Annual giving Campaign, we have good news: the 8th Annual Giving Campaign is open until January 31st. It’s as easy as CLICKING HERE.

Annual giving is our primary vehicle for raising money for Scholarships, Public Interest Grants and our pro bono services. Over the past 7 years we’ve raised over $100,000.  We’ve awarded 29 scholarships and 10 public interest grants.  Our Mission Statement calls for “… full participation of women lawyers  and judges in the legal profession … and improving the status of women in our society… .”  Our scholarships and grants do just that by defraying the cost of tuition, reducing debt and addressing pressing public interest law needs.

Many of us don’t have the opportunity to help the disadvantaged, the underserved and the voiceless but our grant recipients do.  California is home to a large veteran population in the country.  It’s especially warming to know that Megha Bhatt, one of two 2014 grantees and a UC Davis Law School senior, worked at Levitt and Quinn Family Law Center participating in the AmeriCorps program.  With the help of the WLALA Foundation Public Interest Grant she was able to develop both a presentation and brochure to help veterans understand and exercise their legal rights, especially in the area of family law.  YOU—through the WLALA Foundation—made possible an experience she might not otherwise have had and at the same time she helped others navigate the often complex and incomprehensible work of family law.

Quoting her:  “The most satisfying thing about my internship experience was the ability to work with homeless veterans and the indigent population. It is very rewarding knowing that I was able to assist clients who could not otherwise afford legal services. There is also a great need to provide family law services to veterans who are often unaware of how to approach the family court system.”

What better way to start the New Year than having the satisfaction of knowing that you're helping a law student help others.  Won’t you take a moment to make a contribution.  Please check the WLALA Home Page Giving Thermometer and be as generous as you can  Every dollar is well used. Be sure to check with your employer to see if there is a matching program.  Your contribution is tax deductible to the extent provided by law.

All our thanks and wishes for a happy New Year.
