Report of the National Association of Women Lawyers, National Leadership Summit, July 2008: Actions for Advancing Women Into Law Firm Leadership

This report offers substantive solutions to breaking through the “15% barrier,” the national average of women equity partners, drawing from its Leadership Summit participants.  The report identifies four major “actions for change,” including Leadership, Retention and Promotion, Business Development, and Compensation.

Law Practice TODAY's Inclusion Strategies to Eliminate Bias in the Legal Profession by Susan Letterman White, April 2010

This article examines unconscious bias in general and how it functions in the practice of law.  It also offers concrete strategies for greater inclusion of underrepresented  lawyers, on  individual and structural levels.

The Project for Attorney Retention and Minority Corporate Counsel Association's New Millennium, Same Glass Ceiling?  The Impact of Law Firm Compensation Systems on Women by Joan C. Williams and Veta T. Richardson

The ABA Commission on Women in the Profession considers the compensation of women lawyers and partners based on a survey of about 700 women law firm partners.  In addition to recognizing disparities in income, this report also critiques the compensation system’s values, which disadvantages women and minority partners.
