Judge's Pet Peeves

by Kelly Hanker
Have you ever walked out of a courtroom and wondered why the Judge did not rule in your favor?  Perhaps you spent too much time researching your opposing counsel and not enough time researching your Judge.  Or perhaps you struck one of your Judge’s pet peeves!  Come learn from our distinguished panel of Judges what not to do next time you appear in court or submit briefs.
Our esteemed panel will provide pointers and tips, which are not taught in law school, your colleagues do not know and seasoned attorneys will not be able to tell you.  Our speakers include: retired probate Judge Aviva K. Bobb (Ret.); United States District Court Judge Gary Feess of the Central District; family law Judge Scott Gordon, who presided over the Frank McCourt divorce (owner of the Dodgers); Commissioner Hattie Harris from the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center; and State Court Judge Rolf M. Treu from the Stanley Mosk Courthouse.
This program will offer candid and honest insight to attorneys of all levels.  Each of the panelists will offer their opinions, pet peeves and advice on a range of topics moderated by WLALA Board member Judge Judith C. Chirlin (Ret.), and will take questions at the end so that they can answer each of your burning questions that you cannot ask your sitting Judges.
This program will generously be hosted by Joanne Caruso of Howrey and will take place from 6:30-8:00p.m. on February 10, 2011 at 550 S. Hope, Suite 1100, Los Angeles, CA 90017.
The cost for this program is $25.00 for WLALA members and $40.00 for non-members and will include wine, beverages and hors d’oeuvres.  R.S.V.P. and registration are available online at
This will be the second of a year-long series of “Pet Peeves” programs that will focus on issues important to all attorneys of all levels. Other topics will include Hiring Partners’ Pet Peeves and General Counsels’ Pet Peeves.
