WLALA in the Law Library
On March 17, WLALA Members Lan Nguyen (Esquire Consulting, Inc.), Natasha Mikha (Clyde & Co.), and Tamar Terzian (Terzian Law Group), participated in the “Lawyers in the Library” program by providing legal advice to more than 120 indigent members of the Los Angeles community. Each member of the public was extremely grateful to the attorneys that volunteered their time and provided their expert advice. As a volunteer, the process not only assisted the people in our community, but also our judicial system. With our guidance, members of the community are now better prepared in their cases and now have a better understanding of what it means to follow the “local rules.”
“Lawyers in the Library” is a program that is held every third Friday of the month from 1:00p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Los Angeles Law Library. The program is designed to provide members of the public the opportunity to have a consultation lasting between 15 and 20 minutes with a volunteer attorney. Members of the public are guided to an attorney whose area of expertise relatively matches the particular legal issue about which there is a question. The legal issues range from evictions and default judgments to family law matters, to explaining the trial process.
Working as a volunteer for “Lawyers in the Library” was an extremely fulfilling experience and I encourage everyone to participate in this program. It is a wonderful opportunity for you to use your legal skills to make a meaningful impact in the lives of many people who otherwise would not have access to any legal advice.
