President's Message - MARCH

Anne C. Tremblay
WLALA President 2013-2014

"If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation."

---Abigail Adams, U.S. First Lady, 1776

March is Women’s History Month.   The work of WLALA and the WLALA Foundation celebrate the history of women’s advancement in our profession at the same time our members continue to make history here in Los Angeles.  On March 18
th, WLALA along with our sister organizations, Black Women Lawyers (BWL) and Latina Lawyers Bar Association (LLBA), will host a mixer at Taix Restaurant.  This event presents the opportunity to meet new friends, share our experiences and get inspired by the life and career of our speaker, the Hon. Consuelo Marshall.  Please join us as we toast to our history and our future as women lawyers.

Other WLALA programs set for March include our Westside Mentoring Circle Dinner on March 11
th, WLALA Night at the Magic Castle on March 12th and our Mock Interview event for law students on March 25th.  Read more about these events in this month’s newsle

WLALA closed out the month with some terrific events.  Kudos to Kiran Singh and Tara Lundstrom for ending February with a program on family formation rights in which the panelists discussed recent changes in the law and the intersection between legislation and the latest developments in fertility medicine.  Thank you to the Hon. Nicole Berhson and Jessica Krondstadt for collaborating with the Los Angeles Superior Court last week on another successful Power Lunch.  And, big thanks to all who coached the students of Cabrillo High School through an exciting game of “Legal Jeopardy.”

The results are in for the WLALA Foundation’s Annual Giving Campaign and I am pleased to report that we surpassed our goal. Thank you to
Susan Steinhauser and her committee for leading the charge.  Special thanks to the Munger Tolles and Olson Foundation, Hon. Patricia Collins (ret.) and Gordon Greenberg and all the individual donors who helped us raise a total of  $16,730.   Your generosity will allow the newest members of our profession to start making history.

Looking ahead to the 2014-15 board year (time is flying!), WLALA is accepting nominations and applications for officer positions. The deadline to is March 31st.  See the newsletter or our website for more information about this process.
