Ariella Thal Simonds is an associate practicing corporate restructuring and bankruptcy at Sidley Austin LLP. In that practice, she represents clients in all aspects of financial restructurings, including debtors, prepetition secured lenders, debtor-in-possession lenders, potential purchasers and other stakeholders in chapter 11 proceedings and out-of-court restructurings. Her pro bono practice includes her representation of an Alabama death-row inmate in the appeal of his unconstitutional death sentence as part of Sidley’s Capital Litigation Project. Ariella is also a member of the firm’s Los Angeles office Associates Committee and Summer Program Committee. In addition to serving on the WLALA Board of Governors since 2012, Ariella sits on the policy board of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, the Reform Jewish Movement’s Washington policy office, and is a member of Bet Tzedek’s New Leadership Council. She earned her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and her J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, where she was the recipient of the Dean’s Merit Scholarship and served as the Co-Chief Articles Editor of the Women’s Law Journal and a Managing Editor of the UCLA Law Review.
